Wakefield Waterfront Event
Wakefield Waterfront Event is on Saturday 6th April 2013 at Chantry Chapel
10am to 4pm.
A display of photographs and documents will provide background on the waterfront, and John Goodchild will give a talk, "Walking down the River" at 2.30pm. We hope that visitors to the exhibition will bring their own photographs and memories of living and working in the area.
Wakefield Waterfront has a long and fascinating history. The Aire and Calder Navigation, and the Calder and Hebble Navigation once provided a transport link that was vital to Wakefield's prosperity. The Waterfront was a hub of industry, lined with mills and warehouses, maltings and other businesses. The aim of our project is to research this history with the help of the local community.

Party on the bridge
Very good response from visitors to the Chantry Chapel 2012
Dear Kate, I would like to write to thank you for the beautiful 'pooh' book that my youngest child ( 4 of 4) won at the recent Chantry Chapel competition.
The 3 children that attended (as my eldest was at a party) all really enjoyed themselves with the singing, drums and bunting activities; but most of all enjoyed throwing their Pooh sticks and watching them appear through the other side.
A huge thank you from Beatrice (age 3) for her new bedtime story book .
With love Anneka .

1) I had a great time - it was so well organised and the volunteers doing the cakes and the poohsticks etc were brilliant and worked so hard all day! I think I enjoyed this Party more even than last year.
2) I loved doing Poohsticks and so did everyone who took part, especially the adults! A good event all round and the sun shone for us too.
3) I met a lot I knew from the theatre and other friends so a pleasant day. At least it kept fine to about 3pm.

Disappointment at the lack of quality regeneration elsewhere in the city, following the opening of the Hepworth Wakefield in 2011, has led Nottingham academic David Short to choose Wakefield as the base for course-work for the University’s second and third year architecture students.
